August 21st, 2022 by Gina

Be brilliant, play brilliant, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French headed south and found refuge in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the term for the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
